FAQs

Unlike commercial tourist circuits, our 6-day Zanskar overland expedition takes you into the most raw, secluded trans-Himalayan frontier. You cross the formidable Shinku La Pass (16,580 ft), camp under raw starlit skies beneath the sacred monolith of Gonbo Rangjon, and trek along the turquoise Tsarap river to the cliff-hanging 12th-century Phuktal Cave Monastery. It is curated for true wanderers who seek community vibes, off-grid adventure, and soulful storytelling rather than crowded tourist spots.

For our Delhi to Manali transit on Day 1, boarding is arranged in the late evening (between 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM) from major hubs like Majnu ka Tilla or ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Return Volvo coaches drop travelers back at the same locations early in the morning on Day 6. Driver contacts, coach numbers, and precise boarding gate locations are shared directly on your trip WhatsApp group 6 to 8 hours prior to departure.

The trek to Phuktal Cave Monastery from the trail-head takes approximately 4 to 5 hours round trip along the gorge of the Tsarap/Lungnak river. It is a moderate-grade cliffside hike suitable for beginners and regular travelers with decent physical stamina. Our certified Awara Banjara trip captain leads the trail at a comfortable, steady pace with regular hydration breaks.

Safety is our highest priority in high-altitude zones. Day 2 includes an active acclimatization hike to Jogini Waterfall in Manali before we scale Shinku La Pass (16,580 ft) on Day 3. Our backup vehicle carries a dedicated high-altitude medical kit, portable oxygen cylinder, and pulse oximeter for daily oxygen/pulse checks. Our expedition leads are fully trained in altitude safety protocols.

In Manali and Jispa, we provide cozy, pre-verified standard mountain hotels/guesthouses with attached washrooms, geysers, and comfortable bedding. At Gonbo Rangjon, we stay at an off-grid riverside eco-campsite beneath the sacred monolith. Being an extreme remote wilderness zone, camp stays feature clean, insulated dome/swiss tents with dry/basic eco-washroom setups and thick bedding built to withstand sub-zero night temperatures.

In Manali, Sissu, and Jispa, Jio and Airtel 4G networks function smoothly. Once you cross Shinku La Pass towards Gonbo Rangjon and the Phuktal trail, mobile connectivity drops completely, giving you a true off-grid wilderness detox. Charging points are available in your rooms at Manali and Jispa. We strongly recommend carrying a 20,000 mAh power bank for the Gonbo Rangjon camping night.

Absolutely! Over 60% of our tribe members join as solo travelers, including many solo female adventurers. We provide a safe, respectful, and lively community atmosphere with verified co-travelers, gender-segregated quad/triple/double sharing room allocations, and round-the-clock captain support.

The trip includes 6 wholesome meals on a MAP plan (3 hearty breakfasts and 3 hot, freshly prepared dinners) from Day 2 dinner in Manali to Day 5 breakfast in Jispa. Meals are vegetarian/egg-friendly, nutritious, and suited for high-altitude energy. Road-trip lunches and snacks are kept flexible so you can explore authentic local dhabas and mountain cafes.

The prime operational season for Zanskar is from late May to early October. During these months, Shinku La Pass is clear of heavy snowdrifts, river crossings are stable, and daylight temperatures remain pleasant (12°C to 20°C). Nights at high-altitude campsites like Gonbo Rangjon drop between 0°C and 5°C, making warm layering essential.

For the rugged high-altitude terrain between Manali, Shinku La, and Gonbo Rangjon, we use sturdy, commercial-plated trans-Himalayan 4x4/tempo vehicles (Force Urbania, Tempo Traveler 4x4, or rugged SUVs) driven by certified local mountain pilots who possess deep expertise in navigating tricky rocky riverbeds and mountain passes.

You must follow the 3-layer clothing rule: moisture-wicking thermals, fleece/warm mid-layers, and a heavy windproof/down jacket. Also pack sturdy trekking shoes with good grip, woolen socks, UV-protection sunglasses, SPF 50+ sunscreen, a reusable 1-litre thermal flask, a headlamp/torch, personal toiletries, and a 20,000 mAh power bank.

You can book your seat by paying a 10% non-refundable token advance, with the remaining balance due upon arrival in Manali. In case of sudden unseasonal snowfall, bridge issues, or landslides near high passes, our expedition leaders activate real-time contingency routes to ensure complete traveler safety. Any extended off-itinerary accommodation or logistics due to natural force majeure are settled transparently at actual costs.
