Itinerary
The Nomad's Escape & Gateway to the Himalayas. Board your evening AC Volvo from Delhi (Majnu Ka Tilla / Kashmere Gate) as city chaos fades into quiet starlit mountain highways. As the altitude rises and cool Himalayan air greets you, relax and bond with your fellow nomads on this overnight transition from the plains to the Queen of Hills.
The Kinnaur Gate & India's Last Village. Wake up to crisp Shimla breeze, meet your Awara Banjara trip captain, and board your expedition vehicle. Drive alongside the roaring Sutlej River through the jaw-dropping cliff-carved roads of Kinnaur Valley. Journey towards the magical Baspa Valley to reach Sangla/Chitkul—India's last inhabited border village. Check in, soak in views of snow-dusted Kinnaur Kailash peaks, and enjoy a warm riverside evening dinner under clear skies.
Sacred Confluences & The 500-Year Mummy. Drive through the dramatic Khab Sangam (confluence of Spiti & Sutlej rivers) into the rugged barren beauty of upper Kinnaur and lower Spiti. Stop by the mirror-like Nako Lake for local chai and momos. Take a scenic detour to the remote border outpost of Gue to witness the sacred 500-year-old naturally preserved Mummy of Monk Sangha Tenzin. Arrive in Tabo by evening, settle into your cozy stay, and listen to local mountain legends over hot dinner.
The Ajanta of the Himalayas & Cliffside Citadels. Start your morning exploring the 1000-year-old UNESCO-listed Tabo Monastery, admiring ancient mud murals and sacred meditation caves. Drive along the Spiti River towards the dramatic cliff-hanging Dhankar Monastery, perched precariously on razor-sharp mud spires overlooking the Pin-Spiti river confluence. Arrive in the heart of Spiti—Kaza. Spend the evening exploring the vibrant Kaza market, sipping hot seabuckthorn tea, and cafe hopping.
Postcards, Prayer Flags & Ancient Sea Fossils. Embark on an epic high-altitude safari to the world's most iconic remote outposts. Drop a handwritten postcard to loved ones from Hikkim (World’s Highest Post Office at 14,567 ft). Ascend further to Komic (World’s Highest Motorable Village connected by motorable road at 15,027 ft) and feel the divine energy at the highest monastery. Head to the prehistoric fossil village of Langza, stand under the giant golden Buddha statue gazing at Mt. Chau Chau Kang Nilda, and hunt for million-year-old marine fossils with local kids. Return to Kaza for leisure time.
Over 15,000 Ft to the Mystic Moon Lake. Visit the iconic, fortress-like Key Monastery where young monks share butter tea, then test your nerves driving over Chicham Bridge—Asia's highest suspension bridge towering 1,000 ft above a deadly gorge. Cross the formidable Kunzum Pass (14,931 ft), seek blessings from Kunzum Mata, and descend towards the mystical turquoise waters of Chandratal (Moon Lake). Hike along the pristine lakeshore and experience a magical night of cozy dome camping under the Milky Way galaxy.
The Wild Chhatru Off-Road & Atal Tunnel. Conquer the legendary rugged trails of Batal and Chhatru, navigating adrenaline-pumping glacial water crossings (pagal nalas) and roaring Chenab riverbeds. Cross through the engineering marvel—Atal Tunnel—to instantly switch from cold desert to the lush pine forests of Manali. Enjoy leisure time for cafe hopping in Old Manali, shopping at Mall Road, and celebrating the complete Spiti circuit before boarding your evening AC Volvo to Delhi.
The Banjara Legacy Continues. Arrive back in Delhi early morning with red soil on your boots, fresh mountain oxygen in your lungs, unforgettable memories, and a new tribe of nomadic friends for life.
